Product Description

Vulkem® 801 is a liquid applied one-part polyurethane coating system that has been formulated to have high tensile strength, tear strength and elongation, all in a viscosity grade that
can be used horizontally and vertically. This coating forms a tough, weather resistant, waterproof, elastomeric coating for application on decks that require a weather-resistant coating but will receive minimal abrasive wear. In addition, Vulkem
801 is also used as a tank-lining for non-potable applications such as fire suppresion cisterns as well as a lining membrane in cooling towers, among other applications.

Basic Uses

Vulkem 801 is suitable for application to substrates that have had loose materials completely removed and major defects repaired and leveled by conventional methods.

Vulkem 801 is also often used on tanks and ducts where a high performance protective coating is required that can handle both horizontal and vertical application as well as immersion.

Vulkem 801 has excellent resistant to ponded water and to most acids, alkalis, salts, fats and solvents. Can be used in gutter and rainwater applications.

Installations

Remove all loose substrate. Sweep or vacuum to remove
dirt and trash. Repair all major defects using conventional techniques and allow to cure. Correct any structural defects or damages. Examine drains, scuppers and flashing and repair defects or replace as necessary.

Clean metal surfaces that will receive Vulkem 801 by wire brushing and solvent wipe with Xylol or MEK. Prime metal with TREMprime Non-Porous Primer and allow to dry.

Apply Vulkem 801 with conventional airless spray equipment or with a medium nap (3/8”) solvent-resistant roller. On smooth flat surfaces apply at the rate of 35 sq. ft. per gallon (.8m2/L) yielding 45 wet mils (1.14mm), and on smooth sloped surfaces apply at a rate of 50 sq. ft. per gallon (1.2m2/L) yielding 30 wet mils (.8mm). Rougher surfaces will require an extra thickness of Vulkem 801 to obtain proper coverage and to produce a smooth surface.

On surfaces that will see constant immersion or exposure to water, 60 wet mils (25 sq ft/gal) must be applied.

The techniques involved may require modifications to adjust to job site conditions as Vulkem 801 has many uses. Consult your Tremco Representative for specific design requirements.
